Chapter 106. Municipal Child Safety Trust Fund


Summary:
Sec. 106.001 – Fund Creation

  • Municipalities with a population over 1.3 million are required to create a Child Safety Trust Fund in the city treasury.

  • (Updated in 2023 by HB 4559, raising the threshold from 850,000 to 1.3 million.)

Sec. 106.002 – Fund Deposits

  • Money comes from:

      a.Court costs under Article 102.014 (Criminal Procedure Code)
      b.Optional vehicle registration fees (Section 502.403,Transportation Code)
Sec. 106.003 – Fund Usage
Primary use: School crossing guard services (Chapter 343)

  • Remaining funds: May be used for programs that promote:

  1. Abuse and drug/alcohol prevention     

  2. Child safety

  3. Child health or nutrition
