Guiding Youth Toward a Stronger Future
The Brownsville Municipal Court plays an important role in helping young people understand responsibility, make positive choices, and find opportunities to move forward.
Through Child Safety Fund investments, Municipal Court is strengthening its youth-focused approach by expanding juvenile diversion opportunities, enhancing trauma-informed practices, improving protocols for identifying children who may be experiencing abuse, neglect, or mental-health challenges, and providing staff with additional training in restorative justice.
The goal is not simply to address an offense, it is to recognize when a young person may need guidance, intervention, resources, or a second chance.
How We're Protecting Children
Juvenile Diversion Programs
Expanding opportunities that provide eligible young people with constructive alternatives while promoting accountability and reducing the likelihood of future offenses.
Teen Court
Giving eligible youth an opportunity to participate in a diversionary process that combines accountability, community service, counseling, and peer involvement.
Trauma-Informed Practices
Helping court personnel recognize that children and families entering the justice system may be experiencing trauma, abuse, neglect, or other challenges that require a thoughtful and appropriate response.
Restorative Justice
Providing training and practices that emphasize accountability, repairing harm, positive decision-making, and successful reintegration into the community.
Connecting Families to Resources
Strengthening procedures for identifying youth who may need additional community services, counseling, intervention, or support.
